Happy Friday, LilyOnTheLam.Com Readers:
I hope you all are doing well and gearing up for some fun weekend festivities. I have a busy weekend of volunteering with some theater & fun thrown in for good measure.
On the layout for this blog post, I have a gadget that adds a footer to each of my blog posts. The footer recommends other posts on LilyOnTheLam.com that the reader might enjoy. If the original post had a picture, the gadget shows both the picture and a link to the post.
I was looking at my blog the other day and there was a recommendation to look at a post I wrote in November 2012 about some of my favorite local, small Tampa Bay businesses. I had taken a picture of some of the products from these stores, but my cat ("Mr. Lo") had jumped in the background of the picture while I was taking it. I decided to include him in the photo versus cropping him out and just showing the products.
In looking back at this blog that I had written about 16 months ago, I looked at the date of this blog post and realized that my cat Mr. Lo passed away about a month after the picture was taken and posted online. He hadn't been sick, so I had no clue in November 2012 that I would have less than a month left with my wonderful cat with whom I had shared almost 12 1/2 years.
I showed Mr. Lo that I loved him every single day I was with him, so I don't have any regrets of "Oh if I had known in November 2012 that there was only one month left, I would have done X, Y and Z." My only regret is the one most people say - I only wish I had had more time with him. He was lovely and I miss him very much.
However, this realization that when I had posted the picture of Mr. Lo I had no idea that the clock was ticking quickly on how much time I would have left with him; really made me think about my life and the people in it.
We never know when the last time we will talk to someone will be, never know when the last time we will see someone. Life is short. There are no guarantees in life. We should show gratitude and compassion whenever we can, however we can. Because you never know when we will no longer have that opportunity.
I've written several blog posts lately about how I feel like the universe is talking (maybe even screaming) to me/at me with messages that I should be taking in and acting upon. I feel like this random glance at a 2012 blog post was definitely another one of those messages from the universe.
Call me crazy (and you wouldn't be the first), but I think it is a reminder not to take anything or anyone for granted. That we need to "appreciate this moment NOW" before it's too late.
I plan on appreciating the heck out of this weekend! How about you?
