It's the return of New Product Wednesday!
I recently hosted a game night for my friends at my home. However I was feeling lazy and didn't want to cook, so I had my dinner catered by Acropolis Greek Taverna. The Acropolis is one of my favorite Greek restaurants. It is located in Ybor City, Florida. Another one of my favorite Greek restaurants is Dimitri's on the Water in Tarpon Springs, Florida at the Greek Sponge Docks, but Acropolis is a lot closer to my home!
I was happy to introduce my friends to my own personal version of crack - Acropolis' tirosalata - whipped feta cheese spread. It is amazing and crazy addictive and my friends thought so too! I think the influx of lots of Greek delights at my party put me in a Greek craving state of mind, because when I was at my local grocery store I stumbled across this product and knew I had to try it ...
Green Mountain Roasted Red Pepper and Artichoke Tzatziki Savory Yogurt Dip. I love good Tzatziki (Greek yogurt cucumber dip), so the thought of tzatziki with roasted red peppers and artichokes had me intrigued. However since I am staying away from starches, I knew I would have to make do with celery and baby carrots as my dippers instead of my two favorite kinds of pita chips. (Whole Foods' Sea Salt Baked Pita Chips and Stacy's Simply Naked Pita Chips).
Even without pita chip dippers, this dip is tremendously yummy. Added bonus, it is not too heinous in the calorie department (see nutritional information here). I enjoyed it very much, BUT I have to protest that it does not taste like tzatziki. It tastes like a cream cheese artichoke dip. I don't taste any yogurty, cucumbery, garlicky elements that are what make a classic tzatziki. If you called this dip "Rockin' Roasted Red Pepper & Artichoke Yummy Goodness Dip," there would be more truth in advertising.
If you're looking for a true tzatziki with roasted red pepper and artichoke elements, then you'll be disappointed with Green Mountain. However if you're looking for a savory, flavorful artichoke creamy cheese-like spread for crackers or vegetables, then definitely try this dip.
